Housing project includes 8990 Holdings’ first mall
Housing developer 8990 Holdings has broken ground for its first mall in Tondo, Manila, where it is building an 8.4ha residential complex.
Its two-storey PHP452 million (US$8.9 million) DecaMall will have a 1.4ha footprint amid 13 residential towers with an estimated 13,212 units. The first mall in Tondo to have its own residential catchment, it will have a gross leasable area of 21,000 sqm.
DecaMall Tondo will feature a supermarket, department store, food court, banks, boutiques, bookstores and shops for home appliances, computer gadgets and active lifestyles. There are 95 tenant stores as well as 130 slots for small and medium enterprises at the second-floor tiangge (bazaar).
Tenants are now being sought, says 8990 Holdings president/CEO Januario Jesus Gregorio Atencio. “We’re looking at department stores and supermarkets that fit the demographic of the area.”
He says the area does not have a mall despite being one of the most densely populated areas in the Philippines. DecaMall Tondo aims to be open by next year.
By the time the mall opens, 8990 Holdings will be turning over some units in the first three towers of the development.
