Lazada Philippines’ top sellers visit Alibaba

Lazada Philippines has sent five of its top-performing sellers to Alibaba’s campus in Hangzhou with a delegation of 34 other sellers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Highlights of the three-day visit included Alibaba Group VP of strategic partnership development Jing Jie and chief marketplace officer Aimone Ripa di Meana giving insights on e-commerce landscape development and best practices of online selling.

Delegates also visited and networked with other top sellers such as casual clothing brand Semir from Alibaba’s Tmall platform, and attended two training sessions at Taobao University, the e-commerce education arm of Alibaba Group.
The delegates worked with Lazada throughout its Online Revolution sale last year, emerging as top in their product categories, such as fashion, electronics and FMCG.

“Lazada has become the biggest entrepreneurial opportunity in the Philippines,” says Lazada Philippines co-founder/CEO Inanc Balci. “Our platform, payment and logistics services enable our merchants to achieve commercial success by reaching out to millions of Filipinos every day.

“With this business trip to Hangzhou, we are confident our sellers will further improve their businesses by incorporating Alibaba’s best practices into their strategy.”

One of the delegates, Steve Sy of Great Deals Marketing, says he started selling power banks online in 2014. “I realised there is a great opportunity in e-commerce when my inventory was completely sold out during the Online Revolution sale. In just two years we have increased our sales by more than 200 per cent – tremendous growth versus offline.”

Lazada’s next campaign is the 5th Birthday Surprise Sale, offering discounts up to 90 per cent. This runs from March 13 to 23.
