Makatizen Card introduces cashless transactions

The Makati City government has launched the Makatizen Card, bringing cashless transactions to its 500,000 citizens.

Mayor Mar-len Abigail Binay says the project is a collaboration with Globe Telecom and its subsidiaries G-XChange and iBayad Online Ventures. The card also works at ATMs and can be used as an official form of ID.

Holders can use the card to pay fees and taxes, and for personal remittances and other financial transactions within the city. Local government employees can also have their salaries and allowances credited through the card.

A near-field communication feature allows city offices equipped with iBayad machine readers to verify the identity of residents and Makati City employees in a single tap.
