Updated agenda released for Retail’s Cutting Edge 2018

E-commerce, bitcoin, startups, logistics and fashion will all feature in Retail’s Cutting Edge 2018 this month, Hong Kong’s leading retail industry event run by Inside Retail.

An updated agenda has been released today to give prospective attendees more of an idea of what to expect when the event takes place on January 31 as one of the main events in this year’s StartmeupHK Festival.

Retail’s Cutting Edge 2018, to be held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wanchai, will be hosted by Will Ross, CEO of Lazada Cross-border (Hong Kong) who will kick the event off with an overview of the state of retail heading into 2018 and the challenges ahead.

Other key speakers revealed to date include e-commerce entrepreneurs Lui Tong, COO of Strawberrynet, Leza Parker, founder of Singapore-headquartered SC Beauty Network, a marketplace empowering women to become e-tailers from home and Sarah Chessis, founder of digital fashion label Isabella Wren.

Ross Stoke of Gatcoin will be demystifying the concept of tokens and cryptocurrencies as forms of payment in retail and how they will impact traditional payment methods, before the CEO of jeweller Fang Fang Monte Carlo and bitcoin exponent Desmond Marshall offers practical insights and a case study of his unique jewellery retailing model.  

Retailers seeking to partner with startups and sharing new technologies – and entrepreneurs wanting to launch new ventures won’t want to miss Michael Lints, partner with Golden Gate Ventures, explaining what investors look for in new concepts and how to attract investment. He will be followed by Australia-based Wai Tang, non-executive director of several major listed Australian retailer corporations, including JB Hi-Fi, on the need for investment in technology, how technology can disrupt and what does it take to get innovations noticed by a corporate.

Pitchfest showcases the next best ideas

A key feature of Retail’s Cutting Edge 2018 will be the Pitchfest where six carefully chosen startups with a retail focus present their credentials in quickfire presentations while a distinguished panel of judges selects the best.

Last year’s RCE Pitchfest winner was ActiMirror, whose cofounder Victor Ruiz will be sharing the stage with Cristina Ventura, of The Cage and Luxarity, and Sarah Chessis, discussing with moderator Anson Bailey of KPMG how startups can take advantage of the changing business environment and stay at the top of their game.

Carson McKelvey, CEO of Tofugear, will be talking about the generational shifts driving technological change and adaptation in retail. And later, three senior executives from leading retail brands will discuss the impact of technology on the traditional retail business model and how it can make the industry more exciting. Those executives and their brands will revealed in coming days.

One of the closing highlights of the day will be Vincenzo Troia, country manager, Yoox APAC with Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, addressing how to expand a retail business model into new markets, focusing on his experiences resolving the cultural and practical challenges of the brand’s recent expansion into South Korea.

Wait, there’s more

More headline speakers will be revealed in coming days as Inside Retail counts down to the second Retail’s Cutting Edge event. Last year’s drew an audience of 350 retail industry executives from around Asia and with a larger venue this year – not to mention a strong lineup of presenters and events – that number is expected to expand.
